I purchased a new non retina 15 inch MBP on Tuesday. I have loved this machine very much thus far, and it has been able to do anything I have thrown at it. I was working on the laptop today, actually listening to some music on spotify and streaming to my iPhone with airfoil. I was also running Chrome at the time plus mail. Everything was running perfectly fine when my machine seized up and displayed a kernel panic. I promptly restarted the machine and applied the one update available from apple thinking that I may have a software glitch. Another user on the Apple forum said that he had the same issue and he was also running chrome. Both of our reports showed a reference to chrome. Since this incident I have not had another panic, other than Diablo 3 losing connection and requiring a force quit. I would think that if this is a hardware issue that I would have had the problem again. I ran D3 for about an hour and a half and didn't have an issue until my internet crapped. The whole time the fan was running and I assume the machine was putting a lot into the game. I am attaching the crash report. I'm just worried there is a problem with my new $1800 laptop...

It's hard to say what happened. Most kernel panics can be attributed to hardware faults so it may or may not be coincidental that Chrome was running when the crash occurred. Keep an eye on it. If another KP occurs, return the machine to Apple and get a new one. As long as you're within the 2 week return period you can swap it for another. It could be something as simple as bad or intermittent memory. Your machine uses the newest and latest 1600 MHz modules.

Page faults most of the time are intermittent RAM. Start a bunch of programs running and just pound the daylights out of the machine. As chscag mentions in his post, if it croaks again return it. There are memory diagnostics available if you feel ambitious. Here is a nice tutorial that I used to diagnose failing ram on a 2011 macbook pro just a few days ago.

Ya, i'm watching it. Like I have said I have been stressing it since an have not had a problem. I have also been using safari, so i do believe that it is an issue with Chrome. Another user told me on the Apple forum that the same thing happened to him while he was using chrome on his retina macbook. Idk, the line talking about "Google Chrome He" is what I am thinking is the problem...

I am now running everything basically that I have installed and the machine seems to be running fine. I tried that memtest app and it wouldn't run.

While I'm not using a mid 2012 mac, I use Chrome exclusively as my browser. Currently, the Rev that I am using is Version 19.0.1084.56. I have noticed with a previous version, every so often, a memory leak would appear to occur and just max out my RAM. I have not had any issues with this current version. I always have a minimum of 12 tabs open and am running several extensions.

If you open activity monitor you can monitor real memory usage and see if anything looks abnormal. Could be a particular extension that may be giving you a problem.

What happens if you use Safari exclusively for a while?

Getting the same thing

I'm having the very same problem here on my 5 day old Macbook Air mid2012... I was listening to music on Spotify while browsing Google Chrome when i got the crash. Everything froze and my music went into a kind of loop. I received an error with the same line refering to "Google Chrome He". This is the second time I'm getting the crash and error... I can't live without Chrome.. If it happens again, I'll go down and replace it =/
