PPPoE will not reconnect without system restart... ??

I am in a third world country (Thailand) with ADSL service and getting customer support is difficult to say the least...

The connection is constantly dropping but the real problem lies in that i can not reconnect unless i restart my computer...

How else can i simulate a network restart without actually restarting my whole system... ??

What are you using to connect, is it an ADSL modem or are you connecting through an ADSL router

I connect with a Siemens SpeedStream 4200 modem over ethernet... No router... !!

Where can i check logs to see where the roconnection is hanging in the system... ??

When the connection goes down again, go to  menu > system preferences > Network

Click the assist me button and choose Diagnostics

that will tell you if it is your settings, the ISP or the line itself

It will also sometimes re-establish a connection

That only tries to set up a new pppoe connection and of course fails...
