Hello all -

I use Disk Doctor to clean up unnecessary files on my mac from time to time. One of the field that I leave unchecked is the downloads box. However, that box is building up and has almost 1gb of things listed in there. Can i check the box next time and delete the files that are their without effecting the stuff I downloaded?

Thanks,
Hwilensky

Does the downloads option point to your Downloads directory? If so, that choice is up to you.

Would it effect any program I am running. I see that I have programs I currently use in that folder. Like I see Diablo 3 in the folder, If I use the program to delete it, will it delete the game as well?

Yes it will. You should move applications out of your Downloads folder and into your Applications folder (I don't know why the D3 installer didn't put it there in the first place).

Think of your Downloads folder as a temp folder of sorts - files get downloaded there, you do with them what you need to and then you get rid of them.

So once it is in the applications folder, then it is safe to delete from the downloads folder?

Thanks,

Absolutely. Once something is copied out of the Downloads folder, you don't need the Downloads copy anymore.
