i have the macbook pro from 5 or so years ago where the battery can be removed.

i am trying to determine which is faster/more powerful (for video rendering)

1. removing the battery and letting the macbook run off straight AC power.

2. leaving the battery in while plugged into AC power, but battery is charging.

the battery is somewhat depleted so i know the computer will have to use some power while charging the battery, but is there a tradeoff? will having the battery in also increase the overall power of the computer because it is not dependent on the ac power alone?

Doubt if there will be any difference at all, but I suspect you are confusing power utilization (as in wattage) with CPU or processing power.

I believe that some models of the MBA wil throttle back on the CPU as needed (but I believe that is because of heat issues rather than battery life--I could be wrong about this as it has been a while since I read it).
