So I have a 2011 iMac which has a 1TB external hooked up to it for TimeMachine. I am planning to purchase a macbook soon and I was wondering if it would be possible for the macbook to use the same drive to store TimeMachine backups while having it remain connected to the iMac?

would prefer separate external drive for each machine. in case things go wrong, easier to control.

I understand that, but I just want to know if it's possible to do that.

I understand that, but I just want to know if it's possible to do that.

You could partition the drive but I personally would not rely on it just incase both machines tried to access the drive at the same time .
