I've been letting time machine back up my hard drive since last year. but the 1TB hard drive dedicated to the back-ups is now almost full!

can I delete some of the old back-ups? what's the best way to manage this? thanks.

To the best of my knowledge Time Machine will delete the oldest backup when it needs more space

I had to delete some of my older ones manually and it worked fine

I have seen reports of users successfully deleting backups from Time Machine but it's really not necessary. Dobby is correct Time Machine will take care of deleting backups for you as needed.

Off the top of my head I can't think of a reason to micromanage this.
