So, I need to boot from an installation disk so that i can repair my hardrive. Problem is my optical drive is broken. So I figured that i'd buy a usb powered optical drive and use it to boot, but then i came across a reviewer of the external Samsung SE-208AB/TSBS that said they could not boot from this drive. So im wondering if this is the case with all external optical drives, just this one, or if anyone out there has any pointers.

Will have to investigate that a bit. Which Mac are you trying to boot? Specs please. That might matter.
