Hey all,

The stock Seagate drive on my mid-2009 MBP started making clicking noises a few weeks back. I decided to use the "opportunity" to upgrade to a WDC Scorpio Black 750 GB 7200 RPM drive.

However, very soon I realized that time machine restores were failing. The time left indicator would show some absurd number like 60 hours.

I then decided to use SuperDuper! and CCC. Both of those failed too. Finally, when I tried to install Lion from scratch using a USB drive, the installation paused mid way and wouldn't make any progress. The same installation worked on an external drive.

After all this, I am beginning to believe that there is an issue with the WDC drive. Before I send it for an RMA, wanted to check here to see if anyone knows what's going on.

I have partitioned correctly (extended journaled and GUID partition table).

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Go to the WD web site and get an RMA and return the drive.

I'm with Harry. Looks like you received a WD drive that was DOA. Western Digital has always made good on their warranty. Might be more convenient, however, if you can return the drive where you purchased it from and get an exchange or refund.
