• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Do I need iLife to use MPV iDVD?

I'm unsure of your question. I don't know what MPV is, but iDVD is a *part* (or more correctly I should say WAS a part) of iLife. iLife is a suite of programs that used to be sold by Apple in a retail DVD box. It included iMovie, iDVD, Garageband and iPhoto.

Now, the company has discontinued iDVD and no longer sells it (though it still functions if one already has it). You can buy the other iLife components as standalone programs from the Mac App Store for $15 each.

iDVD doesn't REQUIRE iMovie but does work hand-in-hand with it so it would be a good idea to have it. All three iLife program are of course included on every Mac and on older Macs iDVD was of course also included.

I don't appear to have iDVD or iMovie! I just wanted a programme to burn a dvd that loops automatically. Have worked out how to do it using DVD Studio Pro but was told that it was very simple using iDVD (which is why I was looking for the app!).

Not sure how you can have a Mac and not have iMovie, as it was included with the Mac (of course you haven't said anything about model, year etc so it's hard to know what version you might have). iDVD is not included on newer Macs, but iMovie, Garageband and iPhoto are.

It is indeed easy to make a DVD that loops automatically in iDVD, but since you don't have it and can't obtain it anymore that's a moot point. As you've already got a solution I'd say just stick with that.
