Moving music and photos to external hard disk

Is there a way to keep music and photos in an external hard disk, no a back up of what is in the external disk, but additional files, so when the external hard disk the iBook can see more photos and music?
How can that be accomplish?

Yes, you can keep all your photos and music off on an esternal disk drive. Just move all your music to the external drive and then delete all your music from iTunes program. Then under the "files" menu just choose the "Add to Library" and point it to the Folder in the external drive, iTunes will import all the files in that folder back into the program. Works for Cd's and dvd's too.
