I have a 20' imac intel 2.0 ghz. I replaced the bad hard drive, as per Apple Store diaonostic suggestion. I can't install the OS on the new hard because it isn;t formatted. It won't bootup, I still get the ? folder. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.:(:(

You should be able to format the drive using Disk Utility. In the menu bar that appears once the installer is loaded, go to the Utilities menu and open up Disk Utility. When asked, make sure you select a "GUID partition scheme."

What operating system are you trying to install and if from discs, how are you booting from disc? Pop disc in, reboot and hold down'C' after the chime and follow van's directions.

Is the Tiger disk the original that came with your machine? It sounds like you may be trying to boot with an incorrect disk.

Might be Optical Drive problem . . . very common unfortunately. Try cleaning the OS disk and giving the drive a shot of compressed air.

And be aware there were two versions of Tiger - PowerPC and Intel.

Thanks! The system requirements on the box are a mac computer with PowerPC G5, G4, or G3. I guess I should have read the fine print. Now I have to find an Intel version. Thanks again!
