I have an external hard drive that I used to back up all my files from a 2005 IBook.
That got stolen, sad yes.
I have a 2007 MacBook (Intel)
I can not to save, read, or transfer any files from that hard drive on the Intel Mac.
Yes tried Disc Utility, no help.
The external drive ONLY has USB or I would firewire.

The odd thing is occasionally the Intel will find it then eject it.

Is this a control C start up "thing", I just want my files back.

What format is the external formatted in? What version of OS X are you using on the MacBook?

current and past

my MacBook is running
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)

I can not tell you the format on the external drive because I cant read it. I can say it was formatted by/for my IBook Power PC (2005)
That IBook was running Lepord or Tiger, last.
I just know it was a PowerPC format.

that help?

If you formatted it on your iBook, the external should be formatted Apple Partition Map (at least, that's the PowerPC default) and should mount without a problem for read access in Lion. It's possible there is an issue with the external drive or the drive's partition map.
