VLC 2.0.1 (64 bit) won't play visual .mp4 file

Your Mac's Specs
Early 2013 13" MBPro Retina, 3GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536MB, 768GB Flash
Titles says the most. Plays audio in library but I cannot seem to get the visual. Other files types seem to be playing-back fine. Let me know whatever further information you need as I must confess that the use of codecs etc. is an area mostly unbeknown to me. I'm using OS X 10.7.4.
