Where is the "Display sleep" slider positioned?

Well, that isn't the problem, obviously. I don't know if there's a plist file for Screen Saver. I can look on my Mac later.

Sorry, missed this when I checked in on my Mac last night. This will be my reminder to look.

My guess would be either an external device or program is keeping the computer awake.

/Users/UserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screenreaderd.plist

That's the closest, but not sure what it does, so I can't recommend anything.

Stretch might be on a more fruitful path to a solution for you.

Sorry guys for waiting so long to reply. The problem was a bad memory strip and a dead P-ram battery that eventually caused the computer to crash completely. The sleep problem was only a warning of things to come. Fortunately my old Emac's sleep indicator light is also a troubleshooting code indicator light, which I wasn't aware of. I relayed the different beeps and flashes over the phone to a friend in Palmdale, Ca. and he looked them up online. Since I had both items in some unused stuff in a closet, in about an hour I was up and running at full speed again. I am curious; do the newer Macs have this self troubleshooting capability?
