I was watching an avi movie on vlc in full screen on an external monitor yesterday but when i tried to exit out of full screen it seemed that my keypad was locked. I held down the power button on my macbook pro to shut it down, but when it restarted the macbook pro display stayed black like it was while watching the movie on the external monitor. I can't get the display to light up and I've unplugged the external monitor from my macbook pro. Could my video card be screwed up? Anybody with any help would be great.

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on the MBP. See this Apple KB article to learn how: LINK

You can try resetting the PRAM. Boot and right after the Startup sound hold down the following keys and keep them down.

Command+Option+P+R.

Keep all 4 keys down and wait for 2 more startup sounds then let go;.

Tried this as well and it didn't do anything for the display. Made the same start up noises but the screen stayed black
