My dad inadvertantly created a new account (invalid) account and in the process lost all his email.

I have put the proper account details in a new account but don't know how to removed the invalid one. how do I delete the bad account.

Also where is the mail data kept? how do I restore the old emails back?

Mail is stored in

{username}/Library/Mail

You can navigate to the folder of the account from there.

To remove the bad account:

Mail --> Preferences --> Accounts

Highlight the "Account Information" button, then click on the bad account name. Click the "minus" sign at the bottom left of the window.

Good luck!
