Have you ever considered using a recurring alarm in iCal? Play A Song As Your iCal Alarm
If you don't like waking up to music you can substitute another sound from among those on your Mac. You may have to record a longer version of the sound/beep. I know I have a little trouble getting going sometimes.

Having trouble getting it to play a song. Wants me to open a file.... would I go to where the songs are stored and open on there?
Also, would I have to wake the computer first, to be sure it would work?

I purchased Alarm Clock Pro 9 - Multi-Functional iTunes-Enabled Alarm Clock, Stop Watch, and Timer after the free ones out there just didn't cut the mustard. Very customisable and can use Apple Scripts as well to achieve what you need and more. I believe there is a free version and trial period that i used to see what it did and was impressed so forked out the dosh. You didn't mention money so if you have a spare wad in your wallet this is a good buy

While I appreciate that, heck, I can buy an alarm clock (perhaps 2) way cheaper. The goal is just to wake up. Thanks anyway.
