Hi all,
First post. I have a PC WinXP, a Western Digital MyBook Ext HDD and an IPad 2 .I am soon to purchase an IMac (after model refresh).
My WD HDD is formatted in the FAT32 File System. It contains back ups from my PC of My Documents and My Pictures.I wish to copy these files to the IMac. Is it simply a matter of connecting my WD Ext HDD to the IMac (when I get it) and dragging these files across?
Thanks for any guidance.
Bill

As long as your WD drive is formatted to FAT-32 it can be read and written to by a Mac. So yes, you should be able to attach the drive via USB and when it mounts, be able to drag and drop documents and photos to the new iMac.

Thank you. That is very encouraging. One further question if I may. I have some avi movies on the WD Ext Drive which I watch on the PC via VLC. Am I correct in assuming that I will be able to do the same on the IMac using VLC or a similar app.

You should be able to do that with little or no trouble. There is even a version of VLC for the Mac.
