I'm running Leopard 10.6.8 on my MBP. I simply want re-arrange some files in a folder while in Finder. For example, a folders has four files in it that are not in order, say... 3,1,2,4,...,how can I move those files around so their 1,2,3,4,? Thanks

If you want it to be automatic, right click an empty space > Arrange By > select what is most appropriate.

Files are arranged in the Finder alphabetically by type (extension). In other words all files which are *.txt will be arranged: A.txt, B.txt, etc.

If you want it to be automatic, right click an empty space > Arrange By > select what is most appropriate.

And if you want to customize the order, select Show View Options instead. Then, for Arrange by, select Snap to Grid. This works for Icon View, which is what I use almost exclusively.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking more like when I was a Windows user I could click on a file, drag and drop it in between other files and have it stay there. Is that possible in Snow Leopard?

Really? Using Windows at work, I have to Refresh. At first, the file sits at the bottom of the list. I doubt if you can do what you describe in Snow Leopard. I just tried (using Leopard) and it did the same as at work, using Icon View.
