Generally speaking it's best to use matching pairs...but matching densities & matching spec's is what's really important (2 x 2 gig). The matching brand I don't think is as important...but why not if you're buying them at the same time from the same place.:)

What is the recommended maximum RAM upgrade on 2011 MBP i7

Hi I just had a query in relation to the thread Upgrading RAM. I've got a 2011 MBP i7 and I was wondering what is the maximum RAM upgrade. On the Apple Store and MacMall they are selling 8GB's of RAM (2x4GB cards) yet on OWC they are advertising up to 16GB of RAM.

My question is, is it safe to install 16GB of RAM on the 2011 MBP?

Yes.:)

p.s. FYI...it's really not about safety. When ram is installed...it will either work or not work. It's not like the computer is going to explode if the wrong ram (or wrong amount of ram is installed).
