enter key

i bought a new computer with existing program and operating system and when i use my old keyboard the enter key doesn't work like it did on my old computer. what preference do i need to change to make my enter key work?

And how did it work on your old computer? What version of OS X do you have on your Mac?

not sure what os x i had, 10.4 or lower
the return key works, but not the enter
and in a lot of my programs they have different functions and i would really like it to work again.

Do you still have the old computer? If so, try the keyboard with it again. It could be a keyboard problem. When hardware fails, it's often very sudden.
