2017 15" MBP, 16gig ram, 1TB SSD, OS 10.15
What am I missing here?

Sometimes it is found that some model computers that Apple releases can actually exceed the "official" max ram spec. stated by Apple (this has happened from time to time for years).

Your computer happens to be one of them (assuming it is definitely a 2011 MBP).:)

anyone else have input?

Yes. You're turning something that's VERY easy...into something difficult.;)

Just order the 8 gig (2 x 4gig) or 16gig (2 x 8gig)...whatever you can afford...and you WILL WILL WILL be fine!:)

- Nick

p.s. Do all those "WILLS" make you feel better than "should"??;)

Way... way too many specs to list.
If you'd searched, you'd have found that I've replied to several of these "will 16gb's of ram work on a 2011 mbp" threads. Been running 16gb for a while now, works great. That said, it may well be overkill depending on what you actually do with your machine.

Agreed on all points.

Thanks for "ringing in"! Great to hear from someone who has actually done the upgrade.

I did search but if I missed "several" of them, apparently I did not search well enough. Thanks for your reply.
