Can someone tell me how I can get connected to my internet connection. I have tried all combinations and nothing works. I have an ipad 2 and do not know an awful lot about computers so any answers need to be pretty simple! I am on the Orange network.

Thank you.

Do you have a wireless router setup in your home? If so, do you have some sort of security enabled for your connection? Can you "see" your wireless network in the wifi settings on your iPad?

Take a look at this document from Apple if you haven't already.

I have seen that document and done exactly what is says.

I don't know if I've got any sort of security enabled, I'm not computer literate, how would I find this out?

Do you see a padlock icon next to the signal strength in the WiFi preferences?

When you say it won't let you, what do you mean? Are you getting an error message?

The padlock means the network you're trying to join requires a password. Do you have a home computer that normally connects to the internet automatically? If so, is it a Mac or a Windows machine?

If you have a Mac that connects to your wifi signal without asking you for a password, that means the password is saved in your Keychain. If this is the case, it's pretty simple to find.

If you're using a Windows computer, I don't know what to tell ya!

Yes there is a padlock and after I put in the password it just says "fail".
Are you confident that you are entering the correct password? Who set up the router for you? If it wasn't you, can you get them to tell you the password that they set?

Yes I am confident I've got the right password, it's on the bottom of the router, it's the one I've always used when changing or adding new computers.

.My laptop is wireless.

The key found on the bottom of the modem is only the default key. Usually your wifi network password is entered in on the computer itself, and is remembered by your computer. Whoever set up the modem might have given the network a totally different key than the one printed on the modem.

What kind of computer do you have, a Mac or Windows?

I've got Windows and it was set up from the router where the password is. I haven't got a modem.

I still suspect the password is wrong and your windows laptop is auto connected to router so it is not asking for password.

Do you still have the router CD installer? If yes, install it to your windows laptop and connect the router using network cable. This time you should be able to change the password.

Thank you all for your replies but I have now cracked it! Apparently if I pressed the number one on the router after putting in the password then press join, it worked. So if anyone else has the same problem, that's the answer. It took all of ten seconds.

Sorry, of course I meant router. But routers and modems don't have number buttons on them. I suspect this is a matter of incorrect terminology. If you have a pic of the device you were using, it might be helpful to other users.
