iPhoto or Documents/pictures

I have always kept my pic in the documents/pictures folder because iPhoto sorted by events by date and not how I wanted it. Am I missing something. Can Iphoto have folders for the folders I want to keep or just automatically the way it is in default

You can think of the Events as folders that are organized by date. If you want, you can combine Events just like you'd combine folders. You can also cut photos out of an Event and place them into another.

You can also create albums just the way you create playlists in iTunes. The original photos are still in their original Events, even if you delete them from an album.
