IMac running very slow

I have been using an iMac for the last 4 years, and now have OS 10.6.8. My iMac is running very slow. I would appreciate advice on speeding it up.

Silver M1 iMac 512/16/8/8 macOS 11.6
And how full is your hard drive? Drives require at least 15% free space to work anywhere near efficiently.
