ipod mini playback issue

I have an older ipod mini that I had refurbished a couple of years back. Until now it functioned as expected. However yesterday I had it restore and sync new music. While I was listening to it from the "all music" menu I realized it was playing every track twice. Initially I thought I'd synced a bunch of duplicates but when I checked there was only one copy of the songs that had been repeated. Have I activated some arcane playback feature without realizing?

I think when you are playing the song you need to press the center button until you see the repeat buttons and turn it off.
