Hi, I have Lion and the latest Safari version. I have seen that when the download is completed of a zip file its being automatically unzipped and after that the zip file is being sent to trash automatically. Although the Archive Utility in mac os is set to leave the zip file as it is after unzipping.

Is this trashing done by safari if then?

Safari does not automatically send a zipped file to the Trash after it's unzipped. The program's installer, however, may be sending the zip file to the Trash during the program installation. It depends on the program. Is it happening with all zipped files you download?

Open Safari Preferences. Click on the General Tab, click on Downloads. Remove the check from the box that says "Open Safe files after downloading".
