Hi all, I am trying to run macros in an Excel spreadsheet created from a Windows PC. When I hit Ctrl F some numbers are supposed to populate but nothing happens and I get a Microsoft Visual Basic window that reads "Run-time error 68, Device unavailable." Not sure if this question even makes sense but I think you should get the idea.

Any help on whats wrong and how to fix it would be great. Thanks.

Macros created in Windows Excel naturally will have to be recompiled before they'll run in Office Excel 2011. (different operating systems) That's why the VB error occurred.

Which version of Excel is this on Windows? Some versions are almost identical with only minor differences among some of the functions.

It has been a while since I worked with these types of macros at all but I suspect the code is looking for a drive/device based upon the way Windows assigns names. If the code is looking for drive F on Windows for example and there is no such drive on the Mac this is likely the error that would result. hard to tell without seeing the code.

@Sly:

Microsoft recommends recompiling macros (Word, Excel, PP) that are used in the Windows version when bringing the document over to OS X in Office 2011.

However, I've basically dumped my macros and now use the "services" feature in Office 2011. Works great with Word and PP, (I don't use Excel).

I have not used that feature since probably the 2008 version maybe before. Did not know they were actually compiling them now. services had not really kicked in when I was using them. The cross platform use was a big deal for me at the time.
