Why won't Aperture let me import files again?

MacBook Pro 16 Inch 2019 MacOS Catalina 10.15.3 (19D76)
I am importing videos and photos from my Droid into Aperture. I had to delete what I already imported. For some reason I can't see the files anymore to import into Aperture a second time. However, the files are still there. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?
