Recently got an old eMac G4 and wanted to reinstall OSX 4. I have the disk, but how do you install the OS on this machine? Thanks.

iBook G3 Clamshell 366mhz+Firewire, PowerMac G4 MDD 2003 1.25Ghz(Single), Mac LC520 25MHZ
Put the OS 10.4 install disk in the CD drive, and hold down the "c" key while it's booting up.
You may need to update the firmware first however; in which case you may need to install OS9 first.

As far as OS 9 is concerned helps if you provide eMac details. Only the first two models, 700MHz, 800MHz and 1GHz models are capable of running Classic and later models do not require then update mentioned.

It's a 800MHz model. Holding down the C key doesn't seem to do anything. The OSX 10.4 disk is a DVD, and just seems to spit it out every time I put it in. Any other ideas?

Two possible reasons for this:

1. If this 10.4 DVD is a gray colored disk...it won't work...they are model specific.

2. There were two 800mhz eMac models. One had a DVD drive...and the other had a CD only drive. If the 10.4 OS DVD is NOT gray (but the appropriate "black" 10.4 OS DVD)...then you probably have the 800mhz eMac with the CD drive.

Check out what Nick had told you. Only the later models, 1GHz and upwards, came with the DVD as standard. On 700/800MHz DVD was an optional extra.
