I have had my eMac for 7 years now and i am about to upgrade to 10.5 (Leopard) from 10.4 (Tiger). I discovered that i needed to upgrade my RAM (256MB DDR SDRAM) to 512MB but im going to go for 1GB. Does it make any difference if i buy 2x 512MB or just one 1GB.

Here are my specs:

Machine Name: eMac
Machine Model: PowerMac6,4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.5)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.42 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 256 MB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.9.2f1
Serial Number: VM53803JSCG

Your eMac can support up to 2 gig of ram. So since it has two ram slots...I would say get a 1 gig stick of ram now...and another later. Personally I would get 2 x 1gig now (maxing it out)...since 10.5 will probably run better.

OWC is a great place for Macintosh stuff...I'm sure they have the ram you need as well:

Wherever you get the memory Ted make sure it is Apple Mac compatible low density modules and not high density PC memory. No doubt this is why Nick suggests OWC, Mac specialists.

Help Ted if that memory had been a link.

MacTracker states memory is PC2700 so you may pay more for the PC3200, which will only work at PC2700, if it is backwards compatible.
