I already switched the bad Hard Drive out and put in the new one. . turned the power on and inserted the operating disc(snow leopard) but nothing pops up but a blank screen with a blinking folder along with a blinking "?" on the folder. i didnt realize the new hard drive had to be formatted . . i only have one macbook.. and a min dell laptop. . can someone please tell mehow i can format my hard drive to i can get my comp up and running?!! i would greatly appreciate it - thank you

Go to Disk Utilities on your Snow Leopard DVD (top menu, Utilities, Disk Utility).

Find your new drive on the left side.

Click on the line that shows the disk capacity

Click erase at the top of the screen

Select the format: MacOS Extended Journaled

Name the drive MacIntosh HD

Click erase at the bottom of the screen, then click erase again on the second window.

Wait until the formatting is finished.

Now you can continue to install Snow Leopard and all your applications.
