What’s the difference between the above? If I have the latter do I also need the former?

Comments appreciated and thanks in advance.

I personally do not recommend either one and you certainly never want to run two AV programs at once. The only AV program that I can recommend is the open source ClamXav 2. Download from here.

Personally, I do not recommend either, or any scanner for that matter...

Just keeping you system up to date, paying attention to where you are surfing, reading the dialog boxes that come up and not getting click-happy will do more for you than any virus scanner in the OSX world. And, actually, that is mostly true in the Windows world.
