Hi There,

Please could someone advise me on weather or not it possible to change the MHz on my iMac.

I recently purchaced some memory which runs at 800mhz, the thing is when I put a 1gb memory slot, it works with the 800 MHz memory.

Is it possible to do this or do I need to send the memory back and get the lower speed memory?

Many Thanks.

Sam

The MHz on a memory is known the memory bus speed and is different than the processor speed. So, newer iMac's use the 1033 or 1667 MHz memory while the processors operates are 2.2 GHz or 2.8 GHz..

Likewise, older iMac's use the slower memory bus speed of 800 MHz or slower. This is a feature of the logicboard that is inside the iMac and the only way that can be changed is to change the logicboard itself..
