Should I partition?

Just bought a 1.5 TB external hard drive for my new imac. I want use it for Time Machine and to store pictures. Should I partition?

You can if you wish, however, Time Machine backups will not overwrite your photos. My personal choice when using Time Machine is to use one drive exclusively for it. I keep several other external hard drives handy for different purposes.

I agree. I'm not saying you can't use the drive for BOTH tm AND photos, but then the question becomes: and where are you going to back up the pictures to? :)

You get what you pay for. Cut corners on your backup solution and you will lose data at some point.

When you get to 8GB of photos, burn them off to DL-DVD and start a new folder for the next 8GB.
