so how can I get it to install it

First it would be helpful if you gave us the specifications of your Powermac G4...since there were probably 28 different models over a 4 year period.

Also...do you have any idea what OS version you want or needed?

You'll need to get a older version of the Mac OS, such as Leopard.

A power book G4 is a PPC machine (older generation of motorola CPU), nothing above Leopard will work on it.

All Apple OS's from Snow Leopard and up require a machine with an Intel CPU.

Apple ended support for these older OS's that run on PPC machines, your best bet to find one is Ebay. Make sure you get the retail copy, otherwise you may not be able to install it.
There is are two versions of the OS - the restore disc and retail disc.

You'll need to retail version because it will work on all Mac's, the restore disc won't as they are specific to each model of Mac.

Also realize you will easily pay upwards of $100 USD for a Leopard OS X 10.5 Retail Disk (Black Disks). So, if the auction has a return policy, depending on what you paid for it, you may want to consider returning it and purchasing a newer model or one that comes with the OS disks.

Most auctions sell things "as is" with a no return policy. But you never can tell, won't hurt to ask....

Don't look at Leopard if the processor/s is less that 867MHz. As Nick said would help enormously if we could encourage, or force, you to provide model details.
