Hi

I have a 2009 20" 2.66ghz core 2 duo iMac and I understand from other threads on the web that it has a socket CPU.

I therefore, was wondering whether I can upgrade the processor?

I know around this time the 24" iMac was running a 3.06ghz core 2 duo processor and i was wondering whether that would work?

If not what processor would and i it really worth the effort as I have 8GB of RAM in mine already.

Thanks

First, check out iMac Intel 20" EMC 2266 Teardown - iFixit

This is the teardown of the iMac that you'll have go through to get access to the processor and then you have to find a compatible CPU and then put it all back together and hope that you haven't broken anything along the way..

Apple only considers the memory to be user upgradable in the iMac's..

I have taken apart the iMac before when I replaced a ****y fan and have no worries about doing it again.

My problem is however finding out which processor is compatible....
