My dad is still in the 20th century with his iBook 300mhz clamshell w/ 9.2.2 along with AOL 4.0. Yes, Yes, I know... I've tried to make him upgrade to something.. anything... but he has resisted until now. He will upgrade to OS X IF he can keep his AOL address book (he wants the names / emails). Now, there is a file called "address book" in the preferences folder that stores this information. I've tried opening it with programs such as textedit to no avail since its gibberish. Is there a program that can back this up into anything... even a readable text file...??

You could use like a flash drive or iPod or something and export it onto that.

Backing it up is not an issue. The issue is converting the already ancient "address book" file into something useable in today's market such as outlook / mail.app / or even a text file.
