Macbook Pro Startup Issues

Hi, after my macbook froze, I rebooted it and now it won't start.
It goes to the gray start up screen, apple logo appears then the spinning lines.
Any clue what is wrong or how to fix this?

2017 27" iMac, 10.5" iPad Pro, iPhone 8, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini, Numerous iPods, Monterey
Do you have your original install - recovery DVD? If you have it, boot the MacBook with it and run Disk Utility from the DVD. Use it to run a verify and repair on the hard drive. Let us know the results.

I tried this by holding down the alt button then selecting the OSX install DVD. Then it returned tot the grey screen with the spinning ball... any ideas?
