Hi All

New user hope you can help

I have just got a late 2005 Power Mac G5 all that is missing is the DVD drive
Can i put any SATA DVD in or does it need a Apple only Superdrive.

I got it for £50 in very good condition. :D

Thanks

The original DVD drive was PATA/IDE.
But, with the right cables, etc, a SATA drive will work. Any drive brand will work (I have Optiarc and ASUS, for example).

Here is an example of what you need:

LG iHAP222-06 Lite-On Internal DVD/CD... in stock at OWC

Find something like this from a local retailer (or e-Bay)...and you're good to go. In this case you do not need an "Apple Only" superdrive.

It should. It's "PATA"...and that's the most important thing.:)

Yep and personally prefer Pioneer drives. it will be trecognised as native. Have that drive in my Mac Pro and works a treat and is DL.

What the heck happened? When you started this thread you mentioned that this G5 was only missing the DVD drive...now the power supply is dead. Did the power supply die recently?

Great that you already have a replacement PS!:)
