okay so I got a boot loop one day that stops at the grey apple and spinning load sign. went into single user mode and ran the standard command line
/sbin/fsck -fy
for diagnostics. got back
** /dev/ rdish0s2
** Root file system
Executing fsck_hfs (version diskdev_cmds-491.6~3).
** Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
** Checking extents overflow file.
** Checking catalog file.
Invalid sibling link
(4,1060)
** Rebuilding catalog B-tree.
** The volume Macintosh HD2 could not be repaired.

***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****

help me out on how to approach this problem. i have already ran that command several times to no avail. do i have to do a full archive and install?

Try booting from your restore media and running disk utility to repair it that way.
