Hello. I'm new to this forum and would like some feedback on the best HD to purchase for my macbook. I haven't been able to back it up to my external hard drive since I upgraded to Lion. Now I feel like I need a completely new solution. I'm looking for a two in one solution (back up and cloud storage). Two things I'd like to accomplish:
1) I'd like to backup my Macbook (and external data on my HD) to Time Machine (with a wireless hard drive if possible).
2) My macbook is old... so I carry most of my media data on an external drive. I'd like to connect to my HD wirelessly if possible so I don't have to carry an external around with my macbook all the time. Cloud storage where I could access my data from my ipad, iphone would be nice too - not a must though.
Could #1 and #2 be combined in one HD?
My set up:
I have an old 2008 13" black Macbook with iOSX (I recently installed more memory so it would run Lion faster). I use a WD passport when I'm using any media (itunes, iphoto, movies, etc) on my macbook so it doesn't take up too much space and get slow.
I've looked at Time Capsule, Airport Extreme (connected to a separate hard drive), WD My Book Live and Duo, and also looked at the iConnect Wireless station. I'm not very tech savvy so I want to choose something that will be simple... or at least where I can find clear directions online or via the manual.
I like the idea of the Time Capsule and I think it would work if I could use it as both a back up Time Machine and as cloud storage. I'm just not sure if the Time Capsule can be partitioned or how to do it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks so much.
