• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hey guys,

Just purchased a brand new Mac Pro for editing video. While trying to install Final Cut Studio 3 I get this error. I tested iMovie as well, and I am getting a similar error about the Quartz Extreme capable video card. I have two ATI Radeon HD 5870 cards in the machine, and that seems to be what's causing the problem. Here is the exact error.

• Final Cut Studio Installer requires that your system have 128 MB of VRAM; this system has only 0 MB of VRAM.
• Final Cut Studio Installer requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card.

Has anybody seen this and figured out how to fix it? Thanks.

Sounds like your incredibly old copy of Final Cut cannot recognize VRAM types and other video information on newer machines. You'll likely need to upgrade.

The bad news: you probably can't and will have to buy Final Cut Pro X new.

The good news: It's only $299 complete and IS AWESOME.
