Hi, everyone, I deleted a bunch of "mail downloads" from the library and then decided to empty my trash.

I'm getting this error message:

The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003).

I'm using OSX 10.6.8.

Any tips on how to fix this? Thank you in advance!

Try this:

Open the Terminal application and type:

cd ~/.Trash
<hit return>

sudo rm -rf

Put a space after the f and drag the item you want deleted to the terminal so that its path is automatically entered, then press return. Give it your admin password and hit return.

My error. I forgot to put in sudo rm -rf. But when I did that, I encountered a warning about possibly deleting important system files. Sorry but I don't know enough to proceed with confidence.

I tried that and got this: cd~/. Trash
-bash: cd~/.: No such file or directory

You put a space between the period and Trash. Can't do that and have it work.
cd ~/.Trash
cd means 'change directory'
~ means your Home folder
.Trash is the actual Trash folder (the . makes it hidden)
The / is a separator.
