What would you do? Dual Display or Single large Display

Hello all,

Its been a while since i've been on the forum. Here is my basic conundrum. I love my MBP15i7, but i'm used to having dual displays for my work environment. I edit video occasionally, and plan to do much more in the future but it can be a bit of a PITA with just the laptop and no keyboard and small display.

Here's what i was thinking of doing:
2 Viewsonic VX2336s LED IPS which i'm able to get for around $175 a piece which is pretty good for IPS panels.
Matrox DualHead2Go DP edition for around $175 open box... I honestly think that this device is extremely over-priced, but so far no one out there has been able to match the quality and output of this device.

Now when its all said and done, it will cost me around $550 with converter cables and what not.

Is it really worth it for me to buy all this just to have dual displays? Or would it just be better to buy a big ole' 27" non-IPS panel display... say the Viewsonic VA2703 For $250 and be done with it.

Its tough for me to choose because i know i'll be happy with the dual displays, especially when I'm editing video with Premiere pro, and I'm so used to working on Dual displays. But on the other hand, is it a little ridiculous for me to be spending $550 for something that is primarily only going to be used for web browsing, excel, and the added benefit of multitasking?

I have the cash to do it, i'm just wondering if I'm being a bit foolish in buying all this... I don't game on my MBP although who knows, maybe some day I might (I have xbox for that) I do tend to watch movies on my computer a bit when i'm working.

feedback would be great guys. thanks.

Hard to decide isn't it? In my opinion, you can't beat IPS displays for their quality and color rendition. If you really want to spend $$$, consider the 27" Apple Cinema Display. :) Expensive display but you can't beat it for brightness and vivid color rendition.

I think I would go with the dual displays. Viewsonic has always been one of my favorite displays over the years. I can remember their large CRT displays that weighed in at around 50 pounds!

You might also want to take a look at the BenQ IPS displays before deciding. They're a bit more costly than Viewsonic but are excellent.

I'd take one huge monitor over duals any day. Particularly if you use something like Cinch that can snap windows to half the screen instantly. Although I use duals at work, I find it makes things so much harder to manage at times as you have to rotate your head back and forth constantly. Pain in the neck (literally).
