How do I get back my Sound Preference Pane after accidentally deleting it?
I deleted the Sound Preference Pane from my System/Library/Preference Pane folder. Now it is missing from my System preferences panel completely. Any way to restore it?
Thanks

No way to recover it without reinstalling OS X. Which version of OS X are you using?

It's 10.5.8 OS. Does that mean all of the already installed software also has to all be reinstalled?

You can grab it from a Time Machine backup if you have one. Simply copy it back and relaunch System Preferences. If that doesn't work to re-add it, double clicking it should.

Can you be a little more specific? Error messages?

No messages really. There is no icon in the System Prefs for Sound after I deleted the pane?

Did you copy it back from your Time Machine backup to /System/Library/PreferencePanes folder? If so, did you double click it?

I didn't have a Time Machine backup from before.

I Checked Audio MIDI Setup
Reset PRAM
Verified Disc Permission

I partitioned the hard drive and did a clean install of the OS side by side to the original install.

Still could not get the attention (beep) sound on startup or any audio to come out of the speakers.

And still no 'sound' icon in my System Preferences.

Ok, that's what I was referring to above - if you don't have a TM backup, none of my suggestions will work.

My only other solution would be to try and re-apply the 10.5.8 update. I don't know if that will work but at this point, you might as well give it a try.
