MBP won't shu toff

since installing Lion I can't get my Macbook Pro to shut off in any normal way. The shutoff process starts, but the dervish spins forever and I have to finally shut off by holding the on button. anyone else with this problem? plus, Lion has made everything slower!

Try repairing the hard drive startup Volume. Startup using the recovery partition by starting with Command-r, or by holding the option key and selecting the recovery partition for startup. Then, use Disk Utility to repair the normal startup volume.
