I have a iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 20-inch/24-inch (Early 2008) 2.66 GHz, which I can't believe Apple limited it to a max of 4 gig of memory.

Question is can I replace my motherboard and at the same time get one where I can put in say 8 gig of ram?

Thanks
DK

Mac's are not like traditional PC's that you could cobble together parts from different manufacturers from and upgrade as you see fit.

The iMac especially is a tightly coupled group of hardware and the limitations of that particular model are the limitations. You have no choice but to deal with them.

4 gig of ram back in 2008 was actually a pretty darn good amount of ram. It's not really fair to measure a 2008 computer by 2012 standards.;)

By the way...if you definitely have a 2008 iMac...then you will be pleased to know that you can actually upgrade it to 6 gig of ram...instead of the "official" Apple max. of 4 gig!:)
