Just a heads up. Safari 5.1.4 was just released under Software Update. It's in Snow Leopard and Lion. There are many fixes.

When I saw Javascript fixes I was hoping RAM usage would come down under Sun Spider, but that issue is still there, but Ram released a minute after the test was over.

At least it was released eventually. I'll have to give this a go later and see what I find.

And it does not work correctly in YouTube. If you have multiple playlists, you can’t use the buttons on either side to rotate through the playlists.

Safari is getting a little buggy. If gestures worked in Firefox (back and forward swiping) I'd go back to Mozilla!

The back and forward gestures work in the FF nightlies so I expect that you'll seem them in the stable builds relatively soon.

I don't remember any issues in You Tube. I use You Tube many times a day. Will check again just to be sure.

It seems to be a bit snappier and stabler for me. Not quite as much lag opening a new tab when I have several already open.

Seem to have solved previous issue with Safari using so much resources that my fan kicked on a little too often. It's been pretty quiet since I installed the update this morning.

My side-to-side swipes stopped working in Safari. I was hoping that the new Safari download would fix that, but no. Maybe I tripped a setting under the hood or the issue is outside of the browser…

The issue is definitely outside of the browser.

I'm having some issues with 5.1.4 and YouTube, but only with FastestTube which apparently needs to be updated.

Chas, what issues you having with FastestTube? I used it tonight a few times and it seemed normal.

I discovered what the issue was -- it wasn't FastestTube at all!

Long ago, I needed to run a deprecated plug-in so I put Safari in 32-bit mode -- and forgot about it.

After I posted that last post I remembered that, unchecked 32-bit mode and now everything is working as it should. Apple really, really, doesn't want us using 32-bit mode if it can be avoided in Lion, do they? :)

I have done that a few times also and freaked out when some things did not work! Glad it was not FastestTube and something so simple! :D

I'm currently using Safari 5.2. It's definitely got some improvements too it and is very fast. With the addition to the Omnibar it makes it very smooth to search and use the URL at the same time.

Are you a dev and running Mountain Lion? I Know a Dev with ML and it has Safari 5.2 and it's nice. The Memory Leak issue is gone in the brief tests I was able to give it and it just flys.

Nice to see Safari catching up with Chrome and Opera. ;)

If they've fixed the leak there, I wonder if the fix can be brought back to the 5.1.x releases.

Will the brainwashing ever end...:Angry-Tongue: Glad they've got an update out - now I have to go to Starbucks so it won't take 4 hours to download.

No, it will never end. ;)

And, why might you have to go to Starbucks to use their internet? Please do explain. :p

If you are under the impression that you can download Safari 5.2, no you can't.

P0ll!ux either broke his NDA big time, or he's a software pirate. Only developers get (or would want) access to Safari 5.2 at the present time and it is obviously not finished or it would be released.
