Help please for silly question!!!

I have just managed to delete the desktop icon from my 'open file' window on my mac - silly question, but how do i get it back again as files im working on are on desktop and i cant get to them!!!:[

found the answer my self!!!

For anyone else who also gets a bit heavy handed:

Finder - preferences - side bar - tick box you need!

Based on the solution you posted, the common term for that is a Finder window.
